  Technology Advancements

We have recently added four brand new multigauge knitting machines type Stoll CMS 822TC. With these additions we are now in a position to offer fully fashioned knitted caps in Gauges 3.5 , 5 and 7. A new M1 design station has also been added. Compared to our Sirix this system makes programming new styles faster and far more simple.

The machines are running well and show great potential. We will be offering more styles in fully fashioned as well as intarsia patterns in our next range. In addition we are recruiting an additional programmer/technican from India to train more local staff and speed up programming of new styles.
In addition to the investments being made to develop human resources the Company has decided to invest in 6 CMS flat knitting machines of 7 gg and 2 CMS flat knitting machines of 5 gg.  With this investment in place Eskimo’s flat knitting capacity will be enhanced by approximately 30%.

The programmes initiated with our partners, Sage Training of Australia, focused on leadership and team building development programmes across all levels within the organisation.  As part of this ongoing process a 4 day programme was held in October and November 2005 with the objective of agreeing a leadership style that will get improved results and ensure a strong commitment to Eskimo’s planned business objectives.

We will continue to upgrade the facilities in the Dyehouse with the objective of improving our service capabilities to our customers.  This project was started in 2005 with the installation of a second Colorcombi dyeing machine and the Barco Sedo computerized controlling system and completion is scheduled for end 2006.

As we come to the end of another year which has seen many new initiatives being taken by the Company.  We must take this opportunity to recognise the hard work and support extended by all members of the Eskimo team. To this end we organised an excursion to Kandy which took place in December 2005 for all the employees of the Company.

Out Bound Training

The Company has made a strategic decision to invest significant amounts of time and resources, financial and otherwise to identify and address the training needs of employees working for the Company.  With this in mind the Company opened a new Training Centre in September 2005.

Board of Investment of Sri Lanka

Eskimo was awarded “The Green Channel Facility“ by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka in appreciation of its past excellent performance in complying with BOI regulations. This award was only given to the top 50 companies from over 2000 Board of Investment approved projects currently operating in Sri Lanka.

In practical terms this facility means that all incoming imports and outgoing exports will be fast tracked. As such Eskimo will not experience delays in clearing imports and the export of finished goods.
